Jasper!!!!

Sorry for the long delay between posts but things have been a bit hectic and uncertain. I guess you can guess that we packed up and left The Big Joke. a.k.aBig White. In fact it was only really a last minute decision to come to Jasper. After we had pretty much decided that we were going to leave Big White and head to Lake Louise. We just had to decide how to get there. Ben got an email from Marmot Basin. Ben had a friend from NZ that was working here and had passed on to his bosses that Ben was looking for work. Marmot wanted to meet Ben. So without even a job offer confirmation we packed up and took the Greyhound to Jasper. It really felt good to leave. There were so many things telling us to get the heck out of there. The moment we arrived back in Jasper everything felt so right. We both had never felt so good about a difficult decision. You may also remember that lived in Jasper last time we were Canada for the summer. We loved it! It was also the very place that Ben had decided to change the direction in his life and go into working in Ski Patrol. So guess we had really come full circle.


Here is a picture of our cute little flat. We really lucked out and getting it. Accommodation in Jasper is practically impossible to get and we heard about this place only by chance and jumped on it right away. The staff accom that we had for a week before was basic and anywhere else in world you would say it was the Ghetto and on the wrong side of the tracks if you know what I mean.

This is how we were pretty much dressed for nearly two weeks. We had temperatures up to -36C nearly every day! We are nearly back to seasonal temperature now and -12C feels quite summery!
It really amazes me after living in NZ and Australia for so long. Canadians have it really good. Sure it might be -36C outside but you wouldn't know it. Our flat is nice and toasty and even too hot most of the time. Our towels are always dry when we go to have a shower in the morning and our clothes dry on the drying rack the very same day we wash them. Its the little things isn't it. Oh and did I mention clothes driers are a amazing thing!!!! No more chinese laundry in our living room or waiting for a nice sunny day to do the clothes washing. Oh...and no more chopping wood to keep warm. No more "little house on the prairie!!"

We had a quiet christmas, both of us worked. We are loving it over here! I even said to Ben the other day as we were discussing the dreaded Australian Visa topic. I could stay in Jasper forever. If we made more money in Canada and we could afford to buy a house here....I could stay.
